So I'm just passing the time until I need to go to work, and even though I should be getting ready, I was just thinking about what it means to be a mom. Remember, Chaela is only 7 months, but this is what it means so far. Being a mom means:
Being awake while everyone else in the house is sleeping.
Bolting upright in bed at 3 a.m. and staggering into the other bedroom to put your hand on your baby's chest to make sure they're still breathing.
Doing a little (or a lot) every day to maintain the cleanliness of your house, or it all goes down hill.
Being tired a lot, but going to work anyway.
Figuring out how to be on a schedule... it was never a strong point of mine.
Treasuring even more the time you have alone with your husband.
Finding the value of time to yourself.
The rewarding feeling of the first smile, true eye contact, the raising of hands to be held, and the first time they say mamamama instead of dadadada, even though it doesn't mean anything yet.
The knowledge that you would have spent literally half as much on groceries had you not had to buy diapers and formula.
The warm fuzzies you get every time your baby looks at you and you know that you mean as much to them as they do to you... at least until they're a teenager.
Anyways, there's a lot more, and I'm sure there will be especially as she gets older, but I have to go put makeup and stuff on, lest I scare the people I work with. Later!
