All the Wrong Reasons

Alright, my addiction to reality TV continues. Now it's "The Bachelorette," and let me just say, I like her, but I think she's going about finding the one in completely the wrong way. Let me explain why.

First of all, she's letting herself be taken in by all of the cheesy romantic stuff that some of the more smarmy guys are coming up with. One of them is an aspiring country singer, and he wrote her a song. Cute, yes, and enough to make a lot of girls starry eyed. However, earlier in the day that guy had taken her aside and said some things to her that sounded like "hey, I know there are 15 other guys here, but you're mine, don't cheat on me." Red flag? Yes. But Jillian (the Bachelorette) is too busy swooning over his crooning (ha ha, I'm so clever) that she doesn't see that. In fact, she likes that he's jealous, which is not cool.

Secondly, she sent home a great, successful, family-oriented guy because "he'd never been hurt before." Really? Why would that have any bearing on his relationship with her?! It's exasperating to watch. She's my age, and, watching her, I can see why people think that 21 is too young to get married when 24-year-old women are choosing potential husbands based on such immature criteria.

But like I said, I like Jillian, I've been charmed by losers before. In fact, all of you who were there to witness my life from age 18-21 know that I was a complete idiot when it came which guys were relationship-worthy (my only qualification was that they be interested in me). However, when I found a good man I jumped on him (can you say 4 months), because I recognized how amazing he was. This girl is sending home the good guys and keeping the shady ones!

And who is casting these guys? I swear the one from Dayton is going to snap and kill someone. So of course she kept him around, cause she's such a great judge of character. Also, keeping the guy with the weirdo foot fetish... gross.

im so mad i totally missed it! she was on regas and kelly this morning and i like her too. kelly was giving her a hard time about going about finding a man this way but she was like why not take to the opportunity and bring the men to her so that way she doesn't have to go and find them (she explained it better and made better sense). anywho..i'm glad someone else watches it too..even if it is kinda silly! ;) its entertaining!

ahhh spoiler lol. i'm watching right now. i liked sascha ok. but i agree...her choices are dubious. dayton dude is way weird. juan is smarmy. tanner's foot fetish is creepy and if i were her i woulda kicked him in the face. i swore after the bachelor i was never going to watch again but one of my teens turned around and convinced me.

also, i think jillian totally worded the question to sascha wrong. looking back on, uh, certain guys from church i may or may not have dated i would say NO I WAS NOT REALLY IN LOVE WITH THEM EEEWWWW but was my heart "broken" when said particular guy left me for my good friend? yes. so anyway i would probably have answered like sascha did because experience teaches you a lot and i don't think her question allowed for that.

ok, i'll stop babbling now lol

I am SO GLAD you are watching it. I watched last season religiously and liked Jillian then, but made myself stay away this season. It took too much time, and I knew I'd get sucked in. I'm sad to hear your review of her picks, I thought she'd be smarter. Dang you, Jill! Keep me updated, reading your blog takes up much less time than watching an entire season online.

Oh yeah, and I like the word SMARMY. I haven't heard that in a long long time.

Foot fetish = no good

I am more into the bachelor than this show to be honest.....my latest secret addiction is Millionaire Matchmaker on Bravo, idk what it is but I just get so into those superficial women and men!

OMG, Allan and I had this same conversation last night while watching "hitched or ditched" on the cw were these people have a week to get married or break up an up and the episode last night featured a 30yr guy who partied all the time and a 22yr girl who seemed to have a decent head on her shoulders. I turned to my husband and said "i know this is going to sound bad becuase a 22 i had been married for two years, but neither one of them is ready and she is too young and has her whole life in front of her" "it is different if you know you are supposed to be together, and if there were supposed to this show wouldn't be an option"
he totally agreed
I haven't watched this season, but I have in the past. I think the whole show is just and excuse to whore around(but it is like a train wreak and you can't stop watching it) What are we teaching young people that have no good examples, that this is real?
